Artsy brings the highbrow, high priced art world to an online marketplace equipped with its’ own art consultants and digested emails with curated, online shows. Founded by a scientist with a taste for the fine arts and a former Christie’s Auction House head, Art.sy’s leaders are taking the art market and turning it into exactly what it needs; 24 hour access to art investing.
In addition to dealing art, Artsy’s goal is to foster appreciation for the arts and create a new generation of art lovers, museum goers, and patrons. The world operates on the Internet and I love searching for art I cannot afford…yet.
Artsy’s search engine uses The Art Genome Project to create a unique search experience. The Art Genome Project is a study of characteristics that differentiates and links works of art. These “genes” which include, art movements, subject matter, and formal qualities, help to create the search engine behind Artsy. FYI: One of Artsy’s investors is Joe Kennedy, CEO of Pandora. Currently, Artsy is invite-only. It’s got that exclusive yet accessible thing going on. In order to request an invite you need your full name, email, and whether you are an art collector/interested in purchasing art. I chose “Yes, I am an art collector/interested in purchasing art.” Which is partly true because in 5-10 years, I’m hoping I will be.
