Converting an ACT Database to FileMaker for Mac

For one of our clients, we took a client management database created in ACT for Microsoft Windows and exported all data in relational databases to FileMaker, so the data could be used on a Mac.

We had a client come to us and they had data stored in a product called ACT. ACT is a program that’s been around forever on the Microsoft Windows platform. ACT is a contact management database system, and it’s proprietary, like so much software. They wanted to move to Mac but they were still stuck in ACT.

For some clients we might just keep them in ACT in Parallels Desktop. But they actually wanted to get the data out. ACT is a relational database with a bunch of different tables that are all connected to each other in a bunch of different ways. They wanted to adapt that to something like FileMaker. So they contacted us.

We did a little research and before long we had a bunch of FileMaker tables with all the ACT data dumped, with all the primary keys still in there, so [the data] could all be linked together. Now they can move onward!
