It’s a big week — the iPhone 6 starts shipping (and appears in stores, not that you’ll be able to buy one) on Friday the 19th, and we’ll have lots to say about that soon. And today, Apple releases iOS 8, the new operating system for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
However, we recommend you hold off on installing it for a couple of weeks. Major releases of operating systems often have problems, a.k.a. bugs. Let the dust settle after the release to see if there is anything serious that emerges. (But if you’re excited and you want to try it, go for it — just be prepared for possible bumps, and make sure your iCloud or iTunes backup is current.)
Also, If and when you do install iOS 8, it will ask you if you want to convert Documents & Data to iCloud Drive. DO NOT DO THIS. Because iCloud Drive only works if both your phone and your computer are upgraded to the new operating systems (iOS 8 for phone, and Yosemite for the Mac — and Yosemite isn’t even out yet!).
More about the new iPhone and iOS 8 soon!
